Yves Saint-Laurent founded his namesake brand with his partner Pierre Bergé in 1961, Paris. His innovative and controversial approach to fashion meant he attracted a new crowd of fashion conscious women. Playing with androgyny in particular claimed much attention, notably with Le Smoking Suit.
Under the creative direction of Hedi Slimane, the fashion house rebranded in 2015, dropping the 'Yves' from the name. The full name and the YSL logo remain on many accessories and beauty products.
Saint Laurent clothes are renowned for their sophisticated allure, playful details and occasional nods to their androgynous roots. Popular pieces include the Tribute pumps and sandals, quilted handbags featuring the YSL logo and tuxedo blazers.
